Before dinner last evening, we had a pre-dinner drink at the Crystal Cove. As we were going to dinner, we saw fellow guests May and Dianne.
May and the person she assists boarded the Serenity the other day in Rio. We have known the two of them for several years as they have sailed on other World Cruises.
We have also known Diane and her husband for several years as they have been on several World Cruises as well.
It was nice to be back to the Crystal Dining Room.
The ship is pretty much full on this final segment of the World Cruise so the dining room was fairly busy but with other dining options such as Tastes, Silk Road and Prego it was less busy than it might have been and certainly far less busy than the night before when we dined at Prego since it was Black Tie Optional night.
For our next course, Anne Marie had the Seared U-10 Scallops. She really enjoyed this entree and it even included Cauliflower Ravioli with one of the Scallops hidden underneath the Ravioli. The presentation was nicely done and the entree was very tasty.
Keith had the Baked Sablefish Fillet which was prepared with a Crisp Potato Crust and he too was pleased with his choice. Sablefish has many of the characteristics of Sea Bass. Those are small potatoes that accompanied the fish.
For dessert, we each had berries.
We skipped the entertainment for last evening. Instead we did some reading in our room.
We slept well as we are sailing to our next port of call. Captain Giske had mentioned when he spoke from the bridge yesterday afternoon that we would be cruising at 18.9 knots per hour. The seas were calm with very little wind or sea swells.
We began today as we do any day.
Keith was up first and worked out and then it was over to the Lido Cafe to have coffee and to read and write. Keith enjoyed an early sunrise. Anne Marie walked for one hour and then we had breakfast in our room.
Today is the first of three sea days. As such, there was lots on the program.
There were three lectures on the program:
The first lecture was given by Rob Warne who spoke about Brazil and the view that this country overtime will become a super power.
Next up was Thomas Lippman who spoke about The Middle East of today, and how it got there.
In the afternoon, Cheri Steinkellner spoke about the writing of Television Comedy.
Speaking of lectures, Keith caught the lecture from the other day given by a retired member of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) about his time with the agency and it was very educational. He spoke about how the Agency went about seizing drugs being brought into the USA that were coming in from Colombia and then Mexico and how the arrests were made. He also shared how some of the Cartel's operate with some operating like corporations and also how they created cells similar to terrorist cells. His next lecture will be on what grandparent's and parent's should be aware of when it comes to children and drugs. We enjoy the fact that the topics that are covered in the on-board lectures are quite diverse and this was certainly an example of that. One piece of trivia for those of you who like to play trivia. What year had the highest amount of drug usage in the United States Of America? The answer is 1979.
In addition to all of this, Anne Marie attended Yoga and also attended Knitting Class. Keith played Paddle Tennis in the morning at around 8:15 AM since the afternoon can be very humid as we are getting closer to the equator. At first he played against Lisa and Christine who are two World Cruisers who have started to play more Paddle Tennis the past month or so. After playing a few matches, Bob from Atlanta who just came on board the other day joined in so they played several matches until it was time for a break as Keith and the ladies had already played two hours of Paddle Tennis and Bob was ready for breakfast. Keith came back up about thirty minutes later and played with some of his other Paddle Tennis buddies until it started to drizzle. They finished a final game but stopped playing as a few minutes late the court would have been too slick to play on.
Anne Marie had her hair done for a good part of the morning so she could not attend Yoga or Knitting.
We had lunch in the Lido Cafe and as we normally do we each had a salad entree.
In the afternoon, Anne Marie walked for one hour and continued to work on her knitting projects. Keith played Paddle Tennis and also met up with dear friend Bob as well as a couple of other guests.
This evening we will be back at the Crystal Dining Room and have a guest joining us for dinner and have a guest joining us for dinner.
TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY...
