Last night we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at the Avenue Saloon with dear friends John and Linda.
Anne Marie with Nat. Each night, Nat brings around two different trays of canapés. We always enjoy hearing what is being served but in the end pass on having it ourselves.
We then had dinner at the Crystal Dining Room.
We began with Tuna Tartare which Head Waiter Augusto made for Keith and Senior Waiter, Ayhan, brought out Shrimp Cocktail for Anne Marie.
Augusto makes not only a tasty Tuna Tartare but also a very generous portion.
Our next course was Salads.
We then had Swordfish.
Augusto had Keith's prepared butterfly style. Since the cut of the fish was thick to begin with, even having it butterfly style the cut ended up being thicker than usual. It was still very tasty.
In keeping with our stay in Rio, the entertainment last night included a local show which performed a Rio Carnival Show.
Keith ended up on the stage two different times. The first time was for a solo dance with one of the dancers and then second with a group of guests and dancers.
All in all a very fun evening on-board Serenity. At the close of the show, Cruise Director Gary wished those leaving the ship very safe travels. Gary noted that today that approximately 250 guests would be joining the ship. He also noted that all guests needed to be back to the ship by 3:45 PM and that there would be a muster drill for all newly embarking guests.
We remained docked in Rio last evening and slept very well.
We began this morning as we normally do as Keith was up first, and exercised and then enjoyed some coffee while he read and wrote. Anne Marie was up next and she walked for one hour and then we had breakfast in our room.
Today is turn-around day as the fifth segment of the World Cruise comes to an end. As is always the case when one is staying over for another voyage, late last night new key cards were delivered to our room for use starting later this morning.
The segment that just completed was unique in that it had lots of Sea Days at the very beginning as we sailed from Cape Town to Rio with stops only at Montevideo, Uruguay, Buenos Aires, Argentina and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We sailed a total of 4,954 nautical miles or the equivalent of 5,691 land miles.
Guests who were not staying on beyond Rio departed the ship at various times this morning and those boarding the ship in Rio began coming on-board at around noontime. This will be a full sailing with 900 or so guests on board. While Serenity can actually hold more guests there are several guests who are sailing solo.
This is the sixth and final segment of World Cruise 2015 as we sail from Rio to Miami where the World Cruise began.
These are some photos of the area near where Serenity is docked. In preparation for the 2016 Summer Olympics they are constructing a new Cruise Ship Terminal so that additional ships can dock there not only during the Olympics but at other peak times such as during Carnaval. When we were here last in 2013 they had begun construction, and they seem to still have a long ways to go until the new facility is completed.
As we walked from through the existing terminal area many of the construction workers were on both side of the path we were on laying on the ground, taking a rest. We didn't taken any photos of that but when we got outside others were on the ground which we did capture in a photo.
As we mentioned, Rio is a fascinating city.

These are photos from the Monastery called Mosteiro de Daol Ento. The outside of the Monastery dates back to the mid-1500's. It is located relatively close to the Cruise Ship Terminal.
We enjoyed lunch back on the ship.
During the course of the day we were able to use FaceTime to talk with our son, Eric, our daughter-in-law Kara and see our grandson Jackson who is just short of being four months young. Jackson was all smiley which was great. We also were able to talk with our daughter, Jennifer, son-in-law Gui, and Grandson Andre via FaceTime. Our granddaughter Emma was napping. This technology is terrific.
We also spent the rest of the afternoon, enjoying the ship.
Keith played Paddle Tennis for a couple of hours and it was hot, hot, hot as it was quite humid. It hasn't been this hot on the court in sometime. Later in the afternoon, Keith met up with dear friend Bob. Anne Marie walked for one hour. She split her walk inside and outside the ship. Later, she met with Mary Ellen at the Palm Court to work on knitting.
This evening we will dine at Prego.
