Before dinner, we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at the Avenue Saloon and we sat with dear friend Linda and John.
We then dined at the Tastes Specialty Restaurant. Tastes serves small portions of food featuring cuisine from around the world family style. It is very similar to Tapas.
We dined with Mary Ellen and Ed. We met them last year as they were on board for one segment of the World Cruise and this year they are on the full World Cruise. Mary Ellen takes the Knitting Class with Anne Marie.
Our wonderful waiter Deirdre and terrific Head Waiter Luigi.
We enjoyed several courses, maybe more than we should have ordered. Thank goodness we do all of the exercise we do.
We had two of the three desserts. They were yummy.
We also attended the 2015 World Games Opening Ceremony. This included the Parade of Flags and this year they changed it up as they had a crew member carrying the flags. In most cases the crew member was from the country of the flag they were carrying and they spoke words in the local language of the country. The show also featured some terrific singing and dancing by the on board entertainment team. It was a great event. It also included a video and we had a short cameo carrying the Olympic Torch and like last year the video was put together by Sara and Jonathan and had them in various costume and was a lot of fun to watch. We can't say enough about the on-board entertainment team. They are such as talented group of individuals who are consummate professionals and they are also such very nice people.
We also wanted to mention that taking part in the ceremony was Mark Schulz a former Olympian winner for Wrestling. Mark and his brother Dave teamed up and won the Olympic Gold in 1984. The Mark Schulz story caught the eye of Director Bennett Miller who turned it into a major motion picture called Foxcatcher. We plan to see the movie.
Earlier in the morning the Crystal Plaza was set up with flags from Several nations and as part of the Parade of Flags many additional Flags were part of the opening ceremony at the Galaxy Lounge.
The entranceway to the Galaxy Lounge was also decorated as part of the Opening Ceremony.
When we returned back to our room, there was a letter and tour tickets awaiting us for our upcoming overland later on this segment of the World Cruise. For the second consecutive year we are doing a safari that is organized by Crystal Cruises and it will be a three night/four day overland. The letter contained information as to an orientation meeting that will be held with those guests on our overland. As we are going to the same place that we did last year, we will still attend but the good news is we will know most of what is in store for us.
We slept very well last evening as we continued our journey at sea. The seas were relatively calm and the gentle rocking of the ship makes it easy for us to fall asleep.
Keith didn't wake up quite as early as he normally does so he did a very short workout in the Fitness Center knowing he would be back up there a couple of hours later for the indoor cycling class. Later he then enjoyed some coffee at the Lido Cafe as he read and wrote. Anne Marie got in her one hour walk inside the ship before we had breakfast in our room.
After breakfast, Anne Marie went to the Yoga Class and around the time she was taking her Yoga Class Keith took another indoor cycling class.
The Yoga Class has more people participating this segment of the World Cruise with some who boarded the other day in Fremantle taking the class.
Most of the people in today's Spin Class have been taking it since the start of the World Cruise. With many guests taking the class together fairly often there is indeed a lot of laughs in the class. Today's class was taught by Fitness Director Leanne who pushed the class very hard. She used a fairly new playlist which was nice.
Anne Marie also attended the Knitting Class as she does on most sea days.
Anne Marie brought much of her Yarn from home along with various patterns and also some Yarn in some of the ports. From time to time, the Knitting Instructor provides complimentary kits which include the pattern, needles and yarn. While Anne Marie has been working on some large projects she just completed a dish cloth which was one of the complimentary kits that she has received in class.
This morning was the start of the World Games. Keith nor Anne Marie didn't have any events today. Most of Keith's events are not for a couple of days.
The World Games are on top of all of the other enrichment activities that take place around the ship on a regular sea day.
There were several lectures given including:
Ed Larson who gave a very good talk about climate change and issues of the 21st Century including what he called Geoengineering of the Indian Ocean. He spoke about the science and the politics behind climate change and geoengineering.
The second lecture was given by Bill Toone who is a regular with Crystal Cruises and a fantastic lecturer and just a wonderful all around person who we have seen on board for many years. He spoke about a variety of animals from the condors to the birds of paradise.
In the afternoon, Dr. Donald Behnke spoke about the lives of thee of the most famous tenors.
The lectures were all interesting and they were quite diverse in their topics which is always of interest.
At Noon, we enjoyed lunch at the Lido Cafe and we each had salad entrees which we made.
In the afternoon, Anne Marie walked an hour and continued work on her knitting projects. Keith tried to play Paddle Tennis but it was too windy and it started to drizzle. Instead, he watched one of the lectures. Later in the afternoon, Keith got together with dear friend Bob.
This evening we are dining at Silk Road.
