At Prego with Sommelier Jiri.
Last night was Black Tie Optional attire on-boad Serenity which makes for a festive occasion.
Before dinner, we enjoyed a quiet pre-dinner drink at the Avenue Saloon. We sat with dear friends John and Linda. This is a photo taken outside the Avenue Saloon.
Afterwards, we enjoyed dinner at the Crystal Dining Room.
We each began our meals with an appetizer. Keith had Caviar and Anne Marie had Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail. Keith doesn't have caviar very often even when it is on the menu but very much enjoyed it.
He could actually eat it plain but did take some egg whites and onion but skipped the other items.
For our next course we each had Salads. Keith had his standing order salad except with Spinach rather than Boston Lettuce as that is not currently available.
For our entree, Anne Marie had her favorite which was Fresh Maine Lobster. They had ordered her a double portion but she gave some of it to Keith.
The night before, Augusto had mentioned that because the Executive Chef knows how much we enjoy fish that they had a nice fresh fish that they would prepare for us. Since Anne Marie enjoys Lobster so much, she passed on it, but Keith said he was in and after the fish was prepared, Augusto sliced it near our table. There was plenty of leftovers for others to try too otherwise Keith would not have agreed to have it knowing it would feed more people than just him.
Head Waiter Augusto with our Butler Rao and Head Waiter Ayhan. Rao happened to be down at the Dining Room attending to something else for another guest.
All in all we had a wonderful dinner. The dining room was a bit noisier than usual because more people come for Formal Night and that includes some of the officer tables.
The entertainment that followed was Ian Cooper who is an absolutely superb Violinist and was brought on board especially for this voyage since he will be involved with the St. Patrick's Day Show.
We slept very well as we continue to sail to our next port of call. The seas continued to be relatively calm which is normally the case for the area we are sailing. We sailed these seas last year when the Malaysian Flight went down which at the time was thought to be where we were sailing. Of course, no one seems to quite know where it did land or crash.
Keith was up early and it was even easier for him to wake up since we turned the clocks back one hour.
Keith then worked out at the Fitness Center and then went to the Lido Cafe for some coffee and to read and to write.
Afterwards, he brought some coffee back to Anne Marie, who ten went off to walk for one hour.
We then had breakfast in our room.
Once again, since this was a sea day there were so many activities to choose from. There were also three lectures on the program.
First up was Roman Pryjomko who spoke about the Global Crisis
in Governance.
Next up was Mark Schultz who is a former Olympic Wrestler who gave a very motivational speech.
The final lecture of the day was given by Judith Fordham. She gave 25 years of criminal law practice and shared many anecdotes.
In addition to viewing a couple of lectures, Keith took another indoor cycling class taught by Fitness Director Chase. Anne Marie attended Yoga and she also attended the Knitting Class.
The morning also featured safety demonstrations which was also done on the first segment of the World Cruise. It gave the guests a chance to learn about safety including the opportunity to see a crew training video hosted by the Chief Safety Officer and the Ship's Nurse. In addition:
Guests could look inside a lifeboat drill with the emergency supplies available for all to see.
Guests could see the one of the Firefighter teams with the equipment they would use in case of fire.
A Demonstration in the Pool of the one of the crew Life Rafts.
And finally, the guests could go up a darkened corridor where smoke was simulated to give one a feel of what it might be like in case of fire.
We both took in all of this on the first segment of the World Cruise. Captain Giske had come up with the idea to provide this expanded safety demonstration many months before the start of the World Cruise and we applaud him for his efforts.
Late morning into early afternoon also featured a mid-day mixer to celebrate the halfway point of the World Cruise in terms of nautical miles sailed as we had already reached the halfway point in terms of days the other day. This is a larger scale version of the map that each of us taking the full World Cruise received in our respective rooms towards the start of the World Cruise.
We each had salad entrees for lunch and then Keith played Paddle Tennis for a couple of hours. There were more guests playing than usual as some who normally don't play were playing in preparation for the World Games. The weather was quite nice and Anne Marie walked outside on the Promenade Deck for an hour.
Later in the afternoon, Keith met up with dear friend Bob and one other guest. Anne Marie worked on her knitting projects.
This evening we will dine at Tastes with another couple.
