DAY 158 CRUISING AT SEA & DAY 150 ON SERENITY

A few photos of Gibraltar from our Verandah yesterday afternoon.

Last evening, we had a pre-dinner drink at the Crystal Cove.  It was fairly busy as it has been on this cruise.

Afterwards, we were back at the Crystal Dining Room for the first of two consecutive nights dining at this venue.

We each had three courses.

The first was a salad.

Then Anne Marie had the Prawns from the menu and Keith had Swordfish.  Swordfish had been on the menu the day before so when Augusto saw Keith yesterday morning, he suggested that Keith might want to go with that entree,  Keith agreed and Augusto had the chef prepare it butterfly style of him.

Augusto ordered a double order for Keith, and when it appeared it seemed to have doubled beyond that.  Keith was able to eat half of it.

For dessert, it was simply fresh fruit for the two of us.

Entertainer and Pianist Jon Courtenay performed two shows at 8:30 and 10:30 PM respectively and gave a great performance.  He was on-board for a portion both the last voyage and for a portion of this voyage.

It was nice not to forward the clocks last night before we went to bed as we did the night before.

We slept well with continued relatively calm seas.

We kept to our regular routine this morning as we do on most days which began with Keith's early morning workout at the Fitness Center followed by a visit to the Lido Cafe for coffee and to read and to write.  For most of the time there was no one at the Cafe other than Keith and the Lido Deck Stewards.  Miss seeing friend Linda up there in the morning and of course both Linda and John for our pre-dinner drinks on most evenings and the other times we all saw one another over the course of each day.

As we were leaving the room this morning , we saw on our mail slot a note from the Housekeeping Department that new mattresses will be provided to all of the rooms on Decks 10 & 11 tomorrow between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM.  As best we understood from a few months ago, the plan is to change all of the mattresses out on all passenger decks and that would be phased in over the coming weeks.

A short while after Keith returned to our room with coffee in-hand, Anne Marie walked for an hour inside the ship.

We then enjoyed breakfast in our room as we got ready for another glorious day.

Whereas the last voyage included eight (8) sea days this voyage only included one (1) sea day and today was that day.   This voyage is clearly about ports, ports, ports.  LOL, but so very true. The same will be the case for most if not all of the summer Mediterranean cruises.

As a result there was a lot on the program for today.

Highlights included:

Two morning lectures.  Ken Rees spoke about Barcelona which is our next port of call for tomorrow.  Later in the morning, Adrian Sindall spoke about ISIS and Iraq.

iMovie Filmaking Course.  With this being the only sea day today's course three different courses were offered today in the morning and the afternoon which would allow guest to learn quite a bit if they took all three classes.

Lots of other classes including dancing, computers, needlepoint, knitting, art, fitness, golf, bridge, Yoga and a few other classes.

The Mozart Tea which is the fanciest of the afternoon Teas was offered today as was a tour of the Galley.

We also wanted to mention that today was a big day for celebrations.   Six people celebrated Birthdays, four couples celebrated Weddings, and two couples are even on their Honeymoon.

Keith took the one and only indoor cycling class that is being offered on this cruise.  This is because of the one sea day.  The class was well attended with all bikes in use.  Some of the people had done spinning before other than the gentleman to the left of Keith who had never done it before.  He said that where he lived they had just gotten spin bikes at the center he belongs to so he thought this would be a good opportunity to learn about spinning.  In addition to Fitness Director Chase who taught the class, Keith gave some pointers to the man about technique.  It was a good class and Chase pushed everyone.  The key in these classes is for each person to work at the level they are capable of working at.

Keith wanted to mention that to his Spin Friends at home, he is looking forward to being back in Class.  Also, to those from the World Cruise who took the Spin Class he sends you his very best.

One of the nice aspects of any type of group class are the friendship and close bonds one makes with people.

Anne Marie did Yoga on her own in the morning with the instructions that Yoga Instructor Maria Kita had left for her.  She also continued to work on her knitting.

For lunch, we were back at the Lido Cafe.  Unlike yesterday, it was busier today but still not too crowded given how many guests are on board Serenity right now.  More of the guests seem to be dining at the Trident Grill which serves items such as hotdogs, hamburgers grilled salmon, veggie burgers and wraps or at Tastes which provides table service.

In the afternoon, Anne Marie walked for one hour and she continued working on knitting.  She is now working on a scarf.  This is the start of the scarf with yarn that Anne Marie selected in Auckland, New Zealand.

Keith played Paddle Tennis for almost three hours.  It was quite windy and the temperature was lower than normal for this time of year.  The wind made it interesting if the ball was hit high in the air.  There weren't a lot of people there so Keith pretty much played the entire time.  All in all a lot of fun.

This evening is the first of two Black Tie Optional nights on board Serenity for this voyage as well.

Tomorrow we arrive to Barcelona.

TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.......
