Keith was pleased that the injury was confined to one area of his eye and that he did not have any retina issues. By dinner last night his eye was quite red which we assume was due to the prodding by the doctor and the various tests and possibly due to the antibiotic ointment and he was squinting quite a bit at the Crystal Cove and the Dining Room possibly because of it still being light outside. As a result we didn't go to any shows last night and just went back to our room after dinner so Keith could just keep his eyes closed. His eye is still red today but hopefully with each passing day he'll be over this one.
Anne Marie is very fortunate that she didn't break any bones as she went flying. As we mentioned she cut her knee and also had scrapes on her hand. Before showering last night she realized that she had a large black and blue bruise to the left of her right shoulder. Her glasses also hit the ground but not only was there no damage to the glasses thankfully they didn't push up into her face.
Again, things happen, and while we wish they didn't we are thankful that it was not as bad as it could have been.
We also wanted to "call out' one of the Crystal Cruises Crew Members who works tirelessly each and every day. His name is Antonio. He works at the Fitness Center and the Salon area doing a wide ranges of items including; putting towels, water, headphones and other items out on the various machines, stocking the refrigerators in the salon and the fitness center with water and other beverages in the salon. Putting equipment out such as Spin Bikes or assisting the Fitness Directors with this and a whole range of other items. He is always smiling, welcoming us to the fitness center, wishing us a wonderful day and just a wonderful all around person. For those of you who have sailed Serenity and know Benjamin, they are brothers. We cannot say enough about Antonio. In the end it is the team that makes the difference and we would want Antonio on our day any day of the week.
Before dinner last evening we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at the Crystal Cove. We listened to John Mentis play the Piano and sat with dear friends John and Linda.
We were in good hands with the bar staff including Nathan who takes good care of us.
Anne Marie with Nathan.
We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the Crystal Dining Room.
Ivana, our Sommelier prepared two wines for us. One of them she had us try to determine what it was. We must be getting better because we could identify the grapes. This proves there must be hope for us. LOL, but so true.
We began our meal with salads. Ayaan surprised us by creating a new salad for Keith. It included not only salad items but fruit and Keith loved it.
We each had the Swordfish Entree from the Modern Cuisine Menu. As in the past, Head Waiter Augusto had it prepared Butterfly Style which we enjoy.
All in all it was a great dinner.
We did not go to the show as Keith's eye was bothering him so we just went back to our room.
We both slept well last evening as we were sailing to our next port of call in Wellington, New Zealand. The seas were relatively calm.
Keith was up first which is no surprise and enjoyed a nice workout at the Fitness Center. He then went to the Lido Cafe for some coffee and read and wrote and then brought back coffee for Anne Marie. Anne Marie then walked inside the ship before it was time for breakfast.
We have been to Wellington, NZ a few times and as recently as 2011 and have done organized tours each time so today we just visited this city on our own.
The population of the city is close to 400,000 residents. Wellington is the Capital of New Zealand and the third most populous areas of the country.
We took the first shuttle from the ship over into Wellington. The first one left ahead of schedule which was the case in Napier. We spoke with a couple who we know from New Zealand who made a few suggestions to us as to where to initially walk.
We first walked along the wharf area and enjoyed beautiful views of the Lambton Harbour and various buildings on the other side of us.
We liked the saying that lined this path.
We arrived to the Te Papa Museum which is the National Museum of New Zealand. Keith spoke with one of the people who work there named Bruce. He noted that the museum opened earlier than normal knowing that we were in port today and that the museum's space is equivalent to four and one-half football fields. The museum was free and is really very attractive on the inside. This year the 75th anniversary of Air New Zealand is being celebrated so there was a very large interactive display related to the history of Air New Zealand.
One of the Kiwi's are the Kiwi Birds. We saw them up close the other day but were not allowed to take photos of them as it was very dark and a camera flash could blind them.
We then walked back in the direction we had come from but then walked up and down several streets in the business district.
One of the ships photographers happened to pass by after Keith took a photo of Anne Marie and took some photos of the two of us.
We walked over to the area where the Supreme Court is located.
The weather was terrific and the sun eventually came out and if we were back home it felt like a nice summer like day.
The three buildings: the Parliament Building, the Parliamentary Library and the Beehive stand next to each other on the site that housed the Parliament since 1865.
As we waited to take the shuttle back to the Serenity we ran into Pianist John Mentis whom we chatted with for awhile before the shuttle came and then we sat next to him on the shuttle.
We had lunch back on Serenity and each had a salad entree.
In the afternoon, Anne Marie walked for an hour outside, and then ran into dear friends Bob and Glo and had a coffee with them at The Bistro along with another guest. Keith worked out in the Fitness Center and later in the afternoon Keith met with dear friend Bob while Anne Marie worked on her knitting.
This evening we are dining at Tastes with another couple who we are friends with.
TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.....
