DAY 51 AT SEA & DAY 43 CRYSTAL SERENITY

For the World Cruise, the Photography Department offers a special package that for a set price you can get unlimited prints from all photos taken by the photo department and also a thumb drive containing all of the photos with copyright ownership rights to all the photos.  We signed up for the package and today and tomorrow we will be posting some of the photos.

Photos of us while transiting the Panama Canal.

Last evening we went to the Crystal Cove for a pre-dinner drink.  We sat with dear friends Linda and John and Linda had an "exotic" drink.

We then went to Prego for dinner.  Our waiter was Marija (pronounced Maria) who took wonderful care of us throughout dinner.

Prego was quite quiet when we were there since it was not only turn around day but the lifeboat drill was held at 8:00 PM for all embarking guests.  Because of that reservations could be made for anytime from 6:00 PM until 6:30 PM and then starting at 8:30 PM.

Our Sommelier was Jiri who also took wonderful care of us.  He served us a white wine from Italy and a Red Wine from Spain.

We had three courses.  We each began with a standing order salad that Keith has in the dining room.

For our entree Anne Marie had Veal Marsala and Keith had the Special which was outstanding.

Keith's entree included vegetables with a Gratinated egg yolk with Jumbo Shrimp, Black Bass, Scallops and Mussels and it was what we called a wow entree.  Simply put, it was delicious.

These specials are created by the head chef at Prego on board Serenity and either one or two additional specials are available each evening.

For dessert, we each had berries as Anne Maria had Blueberries and Keith had mixed Berries.

As mentioned at 8:00 there was a lifeboat drill for those guests who just boarded in Lima  We needed up going to our room.

Anne Marie surprised Keith with a Cake to celebrate his retirement which took place 12 years ago on this date.

We didn't go to the show last evening.  There was a lot of pollution in Lima when we toured the downtown area and Anne Marie was having some symptoms from the pollution similar to what happened to her in China during our 2012 visit there where pollution is also a major problem.   More on this in a moment.

We left port at 9:00 PM last night and now are sailing to our next port of call stop in Easter Island.

Keith was up early and back in the Fitness Center.  He watched the Tennis Match that was being broadcast live from Australia.  Marija had reminded Keith about the match with one of the participants from her home town in Serbia.

After Keith's workout it was back to the Lido Cafe for Coffee and to read and write.  As usual, he brought Coffee back to the room for Anne Marie who then walked for an hour inside the ship before we had breakfast in our room.  Right before breakfast, Keith went to the Fitness Center to sign up for tomorrows indoor cycling class.

While we had our breakfast, we watched the Daily Morning Show.  The special guest was Food & Beverage Manager Tayfun.  Tayfun is not only so very proficient in his job but he has an amazing sense of humor.  During the show, Tayfun spoke about the plan for the Super Bowl and he called it the Supper Bowl since food will be served in the public room where guests can view the game should they not want to watch it in his room.  Tayfun also had one of the butlers come into the studio (Alex) with coffee and pastries for Gary and Stacey.  Tayfun went on to say that he hoped that Hotel Director Josef was not watching the show as he could get into real trouble for this.  Of course, he was just kidding about getting in trouble.

As usual, Stacey and Gary did some trivia.  The first question Keith easily knew but didn't call in.  The question was who was the first Super Bowl MVP.  Hint, the person was also the second Super Bowl MVP.  Keith called in for the next question which was a Movie Gram which was who starred opposite Natalie Wood in Barefoot In The Park.  Yes, it was Robert Redford.

There was lots on the schedule for today given that we are at sea with 50+ activities available.  The three lectures included:

Dr. Melvyn Bowen who spoke about Captain Cook's Voyages of Discovery.  He gave an overview of places visited by this 18th century explorer, highlighting those that Serenity will visit or pass near.

The featured talk was given at 11:00 AM when former Senator and Governor of Florida Bob Graham spoke about Work days and finding himself in Florida.  As Governor, Bob Graham had an 85% approval rating which in the day in age would be the exception.  He introduced his wife and tomorrow is their 56th Wedding Anniversary.  This is their first time on Crystal Cruises.  The focus of today's lectures is that he worked different jobs while serving in political office.  In total, he had 408 different job experiences including being a police officer, garbage collector, teacher busboy, train engineer, construction worker, fisherman and the list goes on and on and on.  He felt that by doing this he would understand the challenges that his constituents faced and it would allow him to maximize interactions with others.  There is a lot to be said about this.

In the afternoon, Dr. Tom Jones spoke about Sky Walking.  As a former astronaut, he spoke about his personal and spiritual experience related to space exploration.  This included the blast off, soaring into orbit, space walk at the Space Station and what it is like to re-enter and return to earth.

Keith saw the first two of the lectures.  Before the lectures, we both sat at the Crystal Cove (that is favorite as in daytime spot) where we read, wrote, Anne Marie did some knitting and we also spoke with fellow guests and members of the crew.

At noon we had lunch at the Lido Cafe where we made salad entrees.

Afterwards, Keith played Paddle Tennis for a couple of hours.  We decided that Anne Marie should see the Doctor as her symptoms were getting worse.  Keith went with her.

As it turned out Anne Marie had a temperature of slightly above 101 along with a bad cough.  The good news is that her lungs are clear. Doctor Ralph prescribed antibiotics for ten days, a cough medicine, two days of steroids and recommended taking Tylenol.  Hopefully, Anne Marie will feel better in a couple of day.

Keith also met with dear friend Bob and a couple of other guests while Anne Marie rested in the room.

We decided that we will have dinner in our room this evening and we will watch the Super Bowl.

TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.....
