This was a photo that we took from our Verandah showing the downtown area from yesterday where one ship can dock. Because our visit was unplanned, we were docked at the Industrial Port rather than the downtown area as the ship in the photo was docked.
Last evening, we were back in the Crystal Cove for a pre-dinner drink and once again we enjoyed the music of Pianist Scott Mitchel. We sat with Olga who is one of the women who permanently resides on board Serenity.
We then made our way to Deck 7 and then over to the Silk Road Specialty Restaurant. For those of you who have not yet sailed with Crystal Cruises, Silk Road features Japanese Cuisine under the direction of Chef Nobu who has restaurants appropriately named Nobu in various places around the World. Nobu began his illustrious career in Lima, Peru and many of his recipes reflect the influence from his time in Peru.
We were joined at dinner by Cruise Director Gary Hunter. Gary and Cruise Director Rick Spath are the two Cruise Directors of Crystal Serenity and they alternate this position throughout the year. Gary just returned from Holiday in Dover and Rick just went on Holiday the same day. We first met Gary on board Crystal Serenity in 2005 on two back-to-back sailings, which was the first time we sailed Serenity. Since that time we have sailed with Gary many times on some individual voyages as well as on the 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2015 World Cruises.
We were escorted and seated at our table by Head Waiter Sigi and Waiter Albert took excellent care of us throughout the evening.
We enjoyed several appetizers, followed by sushi and sashimi as well as an entree. These are photos of just some of these items.
We did not make it to the evening performance which included two performance by Internationally Claimed Pianist Tian Jiang.
We slept well last evening as we sailed to our next of of call of Holyhead, Wales.
We then had breakfast in our room.
Keith went to another Spin (indoor cycling) Class and this one was taught by Fitness Director James. Keith and one other Passenger who is in her 20's took the class and James pushed all of us as if Keith was in his 20's too. LOL, but true and Keith loved it. It was a great workout.
While Keith was in class, Anne Marie walked for an hour.
Afterwards, we got ready to visit Holyhead, Wales for the very first time.
Holyhead is a town of less than 15,000 residents but is a popular town and attracts many visitors to see the town itself and to visit Anglesey. It has a nice variety of shopping and restaurants and also has theatre and cinema.
We took the shuttle into town and the total drive was around 15 minutes, of which almost 10 minutes were to just get out of the cruise ship terminal area.
The weather was in the mid-50's and at times it felt cooler because of the winds but every so often it was less windy and the sun would even break through the clouds.
We enjoyed a nice walk around the town. The locals who we spoke with were very friendly. It is indeed a charming town.
We did encounter a little trouble and Keith had to come to the rescue to save Anne Marie from these to tough guys.
We stopped by to see the St.Cybl's Church.
Back on the ship we had lunch at the Lido Cafe and, yes, we each had a nice salad entree.
After lunch, Keith played Paddle Tennis for a couple of hours. One other guest played along with some members of the crew. The weather was a bit chilly at first but it gradually became warmer and the sun even came out for awhile. While Keith played Paddle Tennis, while Anne Marie walked for an hour outside on the wrap-around Promenade Deck.
Before dinner, we got organized for tomorrow as we will be on a fully day tour.
This evening we will be dining with friends David and Rocky at Tastes. We will post about this tomorrow.
