Before dinner, we had a pre-dinner drink at the Crystal Cove and we listened to Pianists Mark Farris and then Scott Mitchel perform. Mark's memory is amazing. Shortly after sitting down, he played the song from our wedding and in addition to that a Beatles Song remembering not only our wedding song but that Keith really loves the music of The Beatles.
Reggie swung by our table several times to offer us Canapés.
Afterwards, we were back at the Crystal Dining Room for our fourth consecutive night. On this 10 day voyage it's looking like we will be at other dining venues more than the Crystal Dining Room as we have been invited to a Crystal Society Dinner at Prego, as well as a Birthday Dinner for dear friends at Prego on another night plus we have a few other dinner planned with others.
Dinner on the first night can be a very busy night for the waitstaff, with many people having dinner at the Dining Room as well as people not knowing where there table is located. On top of this there are the introductions with those sitting with other stablemates and also introductions with the waitstaff. While the Dining Room was very busy, the service remained high.
We enjoyed another superb dinner.
Our first course was salads:
Anne Marie had a Butter Leaf Salad. She passed on the onion fried rings just because she does not eat them in general, but she enjoyed the rest of the salad. and Keith had his standing order salad.
For our Main Course we each had the Fresh Atlantic Salmon Fillet which was accompanied with Parsley Potatoes, Sautéed Spinach and Red Bell Pepper. We thought that it was very tasty. Anne Marie opted to have a different sauce with the salmon as she is allergic to oranges.
For our third and final course Keith had mixed berries and Anne Marie had blueberries.
After dinner we visited the Avenue Saloon hoping that we would run into dear friends Bob and Glo and sure enough we did along with their daughter Diane and Grandchildren Becky and Spencer. It was so very nice to catch up with everyone in person and we have a lot more catching up to do.
At 8:00 PM, there was an emergency muster drill for only embarking passengers so we did not have to attend that drill. From time to time all guests will be asked to attend these drills.
There was a welcome aboard show at 10:15 PM, however, since we would also need to forward the clocks by one hour so we passed on this show.
We left Miami at around 8:00 PM. The sail away is actually nice from this port so we enjoyed that from our room.
We slept well as we usually do on Serenity. Keith was up first and enjoyed a nice workout on the Elliptical Machine and then had coffee and read and wrote at the Lido Cafe. Anne Marie did a partial walk before breakfast and then finished her walk later in the morning. We had breakfast earlier than usual since Keith attended an 8:15 AM spin class.
There was a terrific turnout for the Spin Class and it is so nice with the additional spin bikes. In fact, all of the bikes were full so this was the most people who have ever taken a spin class on board either Crystal Ship. Keith and another passenger, Carrie, remembered each other from a sailing they were on together on January 5 of last year. Fitness Director, Leanne taught another great class.
Dear friend Bob arrived to the Fitness Center a little while after the spin class began and was lifting weights so Anne Marie got a photo of Bob. It was very sunny with the shades open so it was a little harder to get a photo without some glare.
For those of you who have sailed Serenity and remember Shane Morley Keith spoke with him at the Fitness Center. Shane had been line captain for the Crystal ensemble of dancers and singers and last performed on board earlier this summer. He has taken a leave from Crystal but is back to be the events coordinator of the 2015 World Cruise. He always keeps in top shape.
Since today was the first of two sea days there was a lot of activities on the program. This included three lectures on the program. The first one was given by Ken Walsh who spoke about the Presidency Of Barack Obama. He also gave a sneak preview related to the 2016 Presidential Campaign. This was followed by a talk given by Professor Louis Beres who spoke about The United States, Russia and the Cold War. He spoke on several areas including the impact on the Nuclear Arms Race. Finally in the afternoon, Dr. Jay Wolff spoke this time around as the Destination Lecturer and covered the various places we are visiting on this itinerary since after the first two sea days we have several ports of call that we will visit with no sea days in between.
We saw these lectures on the television after they were recorded. As you can see, the topics covered were very diverse from each other.
We had our usual lunch at the Lido Cafe and we each made nice salad entrees.
In the afternoon, Keith played Paddle Tennis and had a lot of fun. It actually had rained for a couple of minutes about 30 minutes before he played so once the court completely dried Keith played for a couple of hours.
Later today Keith will be meeting with dear friend Bob.
Anne Marie walked for an hour and also sat outside and worked on her knitting projects.
This evening is the Captain's Welcome Reception and also is a Black Tie Optional Evening and we will be attending another reception before dinner. We will post all about this tomorrow.
We are posting earlier today because we have a full afternoon and evening.
We will end today with two thoughts for the day, including one from Longtime ESPN sportscaster Stuart Scott who just passed away at the young age of only 49.
TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.....
"When you did does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live." - Stuart Scott
“You were not born a winner, and you were not born a loser. You are what you make yourself be.” - Lou Holtz
